I will post the results as soon as I get them along with the images selected! All projects will soon be posted on our school gallery at Artsonia once we return from break.
Several students finished their projects just in time to participate in the Celebrating Art competition (deadline April 3rd)! When hearing their work could be published in a book, students really wanted to make sure to get theirs finished before leaving for Spring Break, which starts tomorrow. It will be exciting to see how many students are chosen to be published this time around; this will be our third time participating in this competition.
I will post the results as soon as I get them along with the images selected! All projects will soon be posted on our school gallery at Artsonia once we return from break.

Students used the links I posted to Moodle to find their species and research information on them. Students are starting to plan out their designs and will begin their final competition pieces tomorrow. In addition to creating artwork on this, students will also create an "I am" poem about their species of study. I look forward to sharing the results towards the end of the week. Congrats the to the students above whose work will be featured in the next edition of Celebrating Art. Last year we had four students receive recognition. Good luck to these students as their work goes onto another round of competition, where they could win $100. In addition to current students having success in this latest competition, I recently found out that SchoolArts Magazine has published a piece by Jacob Mahoney in the January issue. We have had several students featured in SchoolArts over the past year. Jessica Marsh had her work featured in the August/September issue from earlier this school year; Tena Baar and Jordyn Horton both had work featured in an article I had written last April. SchoolArts Magazine has been a leading Art Education magazine since 1901. BCWMS Visual Arts students will also be featured in the 2013 McGraw Hill editions of ArtTalk and Exploring Art. I worked as a contributor to Exploring Art and look forward to seeing the book when it comes out! 7th grade students finished their comics today and 8th grade students will be finishing theirs over the weekend. From magic mustaches to instructions on making baskets, students selected a lot of unique topics to create their comic books. Students have the opportunity to enter their work in a contest sponsored by Scholastic Art Magazine. Any student interested in participating in the competition can download and print the contest form connected to this post and turn it in with their comic by the end of November.
Although none of the WMS entries this year received recognition at Sooper Art 2011, I am very proud of the participation of the students from BC. In all, BCPS had 12 students receive recognition at this year's competition.
Check out the winners on this online gallery. 7th and 8th grade students finished up their projects today and uploaded them to Moodle. I am in the process of uploading the images to Artsonia today and where they will be available for your viewing pleasure. Students have the opportunity to submit these images to the Sooper Art 2011 competition. The form needs to be signed and turned in by the end of this week.
Students continue to work on their pieces that will be turned in on Monday for a grade using Moodle. Students interested in participating in the Sooper Art Contest, will have to get the entry form signed and turned in by Wednesday.
Students continued their research on nature by using the links on Moodle to check out past work from students and websites that feature nature and art. Students checked out the Sooper Art Contest and the Stop Extinction contest as well as our Artsonia to gather ideas. They also checked out the pictures they took yesterday outside and applied all of those concepts together when planning for their projects. Students will be entering their final pieces on October 22nd to the Sooper Art 2011 contest at the GRAM. |
