what a week!
It has been almost a week since the last post! In that time students are busy getting all kinds of competition pieces ready. From the Meijer Great Choices PSA contest, to the national STEM challenge, to the Blick Printmaking contest - there is a lot of choose from. Students also finished their Doogle 4 Google entries today and I will be posting them on Artsonia shortly.
great times at the gram
Last night was the Region 9 awards reception for students and their families at the Grand Rapids Art Museum. It was also a time to see friends and beautiful works created by young artists from around West Michigan.
I also enjoyed the Robert Rauschenberg exhibit filled with bright, colorful prints from this iconic artist.
art and STEM promo
Check out the video below for just a few of the reasons why students should consider signing up for this class when entering the Middle School!
Check out the new website for the Byron Center Public Schools Visual Arts program. Some of the pages are still being worked on, but we have a pretty good layout of what we offer not only in terms of classes to take, but lessons in life!
We are very blessed to have the resources we do to teach students in all areas of Visual Arts starting in 1st grade. The video above was created by students in the upper level art classes at the High School last year and presented to our Board of Education. We will be giving another presentation this April highlighting the great things we have accomplished so far this year.
meijer gardens field trip
Our program was recently awarded a travel grant to visit the Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park on April 27th. Students participating in the trip will be selected based on their responses on the form attached to this post.
Students interested will need to have the form filled out, signed, and returned to me by March 9th. Students accepted to go will be notified via email by March 17th.
student work at the GRAM
Today was a beautiful day to head downtown and check out the student work on display for the Region 9 MAEA show at the Grand Rapids Art Museum. The work will be on display until March 8th.
Region 9 Show
BCPS students received recognition today as their work was selected to be on display as a part of the Region 9 MAEA Show. Students from grades 5-12 had works selected by the committee to be on display at the Grand Rapids Art Museum and several were also tapped to go on and compete at the State level in Lansing. We will find out the results from that competition later next month.
I look forward to sharing this news with my students when I see them next week and I am very excited to enjoy the reception on Wednesday from 6-8 at the GRAM.
What do you get when you mix Art, Science, Geography, and Language Arts? You get the BCWMS entries for the 2012 Endangered Species Contest. Check out the following projects handed in today with their "I am" poems. I think I will put together a book of the top 20 pieces - stay tuned for more details...

Students are working on their images of endangered species today as they begin applying color and value using the material of their choice to their final projects. Students will continue working on these until Monday, when they will be due.
