Volunteer for the Craft Fair

Every November, The Byron Center Fine Arts Boosters puts on the most amazing event that benefits all Arts students at Byron Center Public Schools - The Annual Craft Fair.

At this event, you can purchase BCWMS student made ceramic leaf bowls and other goods created by BCPS Visual Arts students. You can also visit the over 200 booths of crafters selling a variety of hand-made artisan goods - just in time for the Holidays!

Hello Parents!

The Byron Center Fine Arts Boosters are proud to present our annual Craft Fair to be held onSaturday, November 9, from 9 am - 3 pm.

The Craft Fair is our major fund-raiser for the year, bringing in monies used to fund such programs as lesson reimbursement, guest artists, field trips and much more.

We need you to help us make this event a success. Please take a look at our volunteer and donation needs to see where you might assist in this annual event! We encourage you to get involved--past volunteers talk about how much fun they had!

Clay Creations

Even though it is Spring Break, I spent a good chunk of this afternoon loading the kiln with the creatures and wheel-thrown attempts captured in the slideshows above and below. I am excited for students to start glazing all of these ceramic pieces once we get back to school in a week. Again, I cannot express how thankful I am to the Byron Center Fine Arts Boosters (BCFAB), DonorsChoose, and all of the parents/students/friends who helped us get the potter's wheel (which also came with $70 in free glazes). BCFAB is also responsible for purchasing all of the clay for students k-12 at BCPS - so without their help, all of these creative clay creations would not have been possible.

I am so excited for our new classroom wheel! Thanks again to all of the friends and families who helped fund this project through DonorsChoose, especially the Byron Center Fine Arts Boosters who matched donations and sent the project over the edge in funding!

I am excited to share this resource with my students, but made sure to give it a go for myself first! After not touching a wheel for a few years, my little bowl is not too shabby!

Our school is going to be receiving a Potter's Wheel! I am so thankful to all of the parents, friends, and community members who donated (even my cat decided to get in on the action) - I am especially grateful to the Byron Center Fine Arts Boosters who matched donations and really sent the project over the edge. They also did a fantastic job getting the community involved through newsletters and postings.

This is the 4th project funded through DonorsChoose and the students were incredibly excited when they heard the news today. Now we want to pay it forward...

Our 5th Annual Empty Bowls event at WMS on March 21st from 5-6:30 p.m. in the Cafetorium. Bring any non-perishable food or money donation, receive a student made ceramic bowl and enjoy Soup and Bread provided by our local SUBWAY while you listen to awesome performances by our WMS Jazz Band, Choir, and Orchestra.

7th and 8th grade students finished up their clay bottles and creatures on Friday. Now, they need to dry, get fired, and glazed. Although it was a dusty week in the Art room, with plenty of clay being dolled out (we went through about 300 lbs), it was well worth it. Thank you to the Byron Center Fine Arts Boosters, whose support make our clay projects possible. Without additional funding from this important parent group, this project would not have been possible! If you would like to get involved with BCFAB, please attend the next parent meeting on October 24th in the High School Choir room at 7 p.m.

On May 6th, students will have the opportunity to go to the Meijer Gardens and Sculpture park thanks to a grant from the Michigan Council of Arts and Cultural Affairs as well as funding provided by BCFAB!

Tomorrow I will email and post the permission slip and essay requirement for students interested in going on the trip. There will be at least 10 8th grade and 10 7th grade students chosen to go on the all day trip!

kendall summer classes

If you are not interested in going away to camp to study art this summer at Blue Lake, then consider the day classes at Kendall.

From offerings that range from Photography to Animation to Drawing and Painting, there is something for every budding artist to discover in Kendall's Youth Program.

Remember to check out the scholarship opportunity offered by BCFAB! The deadline for scholarship applications is on April 30th.
