With a new school year right around the corner, I decided to jazz up my website.

This site includes links to our calendar of events, syllabi, Artsonia permission slips, as well as other information about the BCWMS Visual Arts Program.

You will also notice the snazzy new banner at the top, using images from last year. I used Photoshop to design it and look forward to updating it again with pictures from all of the creations this year.

Then enter the Summer Fun People's Choice Contest!

This contest is calling for students from grades 7-12 to submit work they have created over the summer for an online vote. The work with the most votes will win and the artist will receive bragging rights along with a goodie bag filled with Scholastic Art Award prizes (including a $50 gift card from Amazon)!

The deadline for entry is September 15.

This is a great opportunity to share your work with the world and get your family and friends involved with supporting your creative spirit.

One way you can help our class get some additional materials for this school year is to click on this link and vote for our project on DonorsChoose.org.

The project is an Artist Trading Card Workshop that will help us create works to share with other schools from across the globe.

paper cranes update

I am pleased to share this image by artist Vik Muniz (who was showcased in an earlier post for his Oscar Nominated film, Wasteland).

Using the paper cranes created by students world-wide and submitted to Students Rebuild, Muniz created this image from the more than 2 million cranes available!

Our students submitted more than 800 cranes towards this organization and the Million Crane Project to help raise funds and awareness to victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

You can now purchase this poster from Students Rebuild, to help raise even more funds for this cause.
