New Works

This week has been a busy one! Both 7th and 8th grade students are working towards finishing up all of their work before switching to STEM at semester (which happens next week). As a part of finishing their work, 8th graders are posting their projects based on transforming an old work into something new and then creating a video reflection on their own growth in art over the course of their time here.

Emma M.: I improved my past artwork, "Imagination." I was trying to reimagine the person in a new way. The style has changed, the material has changed, but the composition is the same. I changed the top to make shapes instead of lines. I also used different media instead of all watercolor and took out the word at the bottom. I like how it looks more now.

Dalton V: I have changed one of my best pieces of artwork from 8th grade and made it 10 times better. I used mixed media of using painting and 3d with my hand and a baseball. I love this new artwork pice that I made.

Keegan D: I redid this project to show 1/4 of s celtic knot which we created in 7th grade. This takes the knots and adds detail and takes one of them off the page. By adding colors on both sides it shows the line as some sort of divider. In the old work the knots them selves were warm and cool colors, now the sides are warm/cool. I wanted to revisit the idea after seeing the idea of zentangle online and wanted to experiment with the changes of colors as black and white dividing them.

Brad R.: I chose my art work The city to make in a new way and instead of looking at it from a distance i went right up close to the building. So it made it look like i was looking up at a building from a side walk corner.

Ava P.: For this project, we selected one of our pieces of artwork that we made in the past and made it new. I chose the butterfly sketch that I made in 5th grade. The things that I changed included that I added color, used chalk pastel instead of pencil, and the fact that I made a close up on the wing, instead of the full butterfly on the flower. I wanted to redo the sketch because I knew that in 5th grade I wouldn't have been able to sketch that myself, and I must have traced it or copied it off of something. I could also see lots of scribbles, so it wasn't blended very well. In my opinion, it is obvious that I have improved the piece based on the materials and technique that I used.

Tyler W.: The artwork i chose to redo is the Atlanta skyline. I made this piece better, by adding colors. Last time i did not use photoshop to add color or make zen tangles and stars. I like it because it combines black and neon colors, which contrast well.

Olivia L.: This piece was fun to make, and reminded me of my growth as an artist I have mad over the past year. I decided to re-do the knot piece we did in 7th grade and make it more interesting. I decided to re-do that piece because I felt that it had no personal connection to me, so I wanted to change that. This new piece is personal to me because is describe my faith and how I stand with it.

Kianna G.: I recreated a piece of art from 6th grade. The piece from 6th grade was a painting and the mountains in the piece were pointed, and the rode was just one size. It didn't get smaller in the distance. On this new piece, I made the mountains and rode look more realistic, and I used chalk pastels to add more color to it. I wanted to recreate this piece because I thought that I would be able to do way better on it, and make it look more realistic then it did. I blended the colors well with this piece, and I made the sky look better then it did in my 6th grade piece. In that piece the sky was all pink and the tips of the mountains were orange, so I think i improved on this piece.
