I am proud to announce that I was selected as a semi-finalist for the 2013 STEAMed Awards! Please click on this link and vote for me until July 19th! In order to enter, teachers who use STEAM in their classrooms could write or create a video entries that explained how they incorporate Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math into their classrooms.
I selected to write an essay that describes how each of the above areas of study are intertwined into the day-to-day activities my students tackle.

How we use technology to do so many things - here is just one of the images students made last year through the use of technology and traditional methods of art making:
We address aspects of Engineering through the field trip we take each year to the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture park where students get to explore how artists work to create large-scale pieces that can withstand hard weather conditions:
And lastly, I explain how we use perspective to explore Mathematic principles when drawing our hallways from observation.
Overall, I am excited to have had the opportunity to share with other teachers the types of learning experiences we involve ourselves in as a part of the WMS Visual Arts Program. I hope to make it as a finalist, but I will need your help in order for that to happen.
