I first did a grid expansion drawing in high school of a girl from a magazine. Since then I have used it countless times as a sure tool when it comes to working from a photograph.
Instead of the usual smile or smirk that I have done in the past, this time I decided to challenge myself with a more difficult pose for my portrait.
I am not sure if it is scared or goofy, but either way I like it.
In the future I think I will request students to push themselves to creating an image that is the most interesting; using a face that expresses an emotion that is not typically captured in a posed picture adds both impact and interest to the overall composition.
When I finish my picture, I will post it online with the rest of my students.
