The Byron Center High School students did a phenomenal job this year at the West Central Michigan Scholastic Art Awards. With 40 entries recognized, students placed in Drawing, Photography, Sculpture, Ceramics and Glass, Painting, Digital Art, Mixed Media, and Film and Animation Categories. High School teachers Greg Reinstein, Julie VanderLaan, and Molly Marshall all had students place. I also had a student place for his Mixed Media piece and Digital Art he made in my class.
In addition to the strong showing at this year's awards, Michelle Farias was awarded an American Vision Nomination, showcasing her work as one of the five best from all entries submitted in our region this year. "Captive," shown below, will now compete with American Vision Nominees from across the country at the National Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Gold Keys will also go on to compete at the National Level. Below are some examples of the Gold and Silver Key Winners as well as the Honorable Mentions, but does not include all winners from BCHS.
