8th grade students finished their Photoshop portraits today. In this assignment, I gave them the freedom to play with the program to create some kind of image of themselves as the subject. Student projects ranged from placing themselves in far off places to turning themselves into monsters or zombies. Other students, however, used the tool to look within their own emotions and say something personal about themselves.
The above picture (and the close up of it) is an example of just that. The student said he was inspired by an ArtPrize piece he saw in the Grand Rapids Press that made a face out of many different objects and he thought it would be cool to create his face out of many different emotions (which you can see in the closer image). When I looked at it, I was super excited not only because it is a great looking work and interesting concept, but it was something that came completely from the student. This piece is the first piece that has been submitted to the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for my classes. I am super excited to see how it does along with the other works we submit.
Here is another piece from a different student that will be submitted to the Awards, too.
