The concept of positive and negative, additive and subtractive processes were being explored in the classroom today as students worked. 7th grade students finished their paper Notans and started on digital ones. 8th grade students worked on printmaking as they finished carving their first layer in their two-color reductions prints.
7th grade students are working with positive and negative shapes today as we explore the concept of "Notan" (the light/dark harmony). Check out the video below to see how you can make your own:
I am very excited to announce that we will be going to ArtPrize on September 24th, in downtown Grand Rapids. This annual field trip is one of my favorites to start the school year.
Students interested in attending can print off the permission slip from this post and turn it in by Friday. I will be able to take between 40-50 students and will select those students during next weekend based on their essay and behavior in class. I am also in need of parent volunteers. If you are interested in helping, please contact me via email.
As you can see from the poster for this year, they are using Op Art as inspiration for their logo. We study Op Art in 7th grade after creating our perspective drawings. Below are videos from last year's ArtPrize trip as well as some Op Art pieces from past BCWMS art students.
I hope students take advantage of this opportunity to be a part of this great Grand Rapids art event!
