Students finished uploading their knots today in 7th grade. It is always fun to see what students make for this assignment. In addition to learning about line, symmetry, and color combinations, students also read about how the Celts used this design aesthetic in their art centuries ago.

7th grade students started their Celtic Knot designs today and worked with line and symmetry to complete their design.
7th grade students are working on modifying their blind contour drawings today before turning them in on Moodle tomorrow.
Watch out for a video on this process soon to be posted! 7th and 8th grade students enjoyed another day of creating as they were introduced to what the semester in Art class entails.
7th grade students put the finishing touches on their bowls from yesterday. Because the clay is now leather hard, students were able to smooth it out with clay tools and also engrave designs on it without having to worry about it collapsing. 8th grade students worked on making their portfolios and color coding them based on their class. Each class has a different color to help keep things organized. We reviewed organic and geometric shapes by having students create an organic shape on the right side to color with their class color and a geometric shape on the right to put their name and table number. 8th graders also worked on their Exquisite Corpse drawings by selecting an area to develop with more lines and color. Exquisite Corpse from Janine Campbell on Vimeo. Today we started classes with some art games and clay! 8th grade students watched the video created by students from last semester to see how to play the Exquisite Corpse game and 7th grade students made bowls for Empty Bowls.
This is going to be a great 2nd semester; if today has any indication, it will also be a very fun and creative time to share with you! 8th grade students are starting to create their prints today based on their photographs they took of their faces, hands, or feet that showed a sense of expression. This is the first time I have really done printmaking with students, so I am excited to bring this new expression of art creation to them and really thrilled with the results so far. We are doing a 2 color reduction print, so today students only used their primary color choice from their complement set to create prints. Tomorrow students who are ready to move on will make a second print with more color removed and add black and white over top of today's print. 8th grade students are finishing up the final upload of work onto Moodle before our long weekend for Thanksgiving break. Tomorrow I will be chaperoning the 8th grade field trip to the Ford Presidential Museum downtown, leaving today the last work day before the break. If students did not get their Artist Trading Cards done today, they are expected to work on them for homework and turn them into Moodle next Monday. 7th grade students worked non-stop today to finish uploading their work from the week onto Moodle. In addition to their hallway drawings, where they used 1-point perspective, they also uploaded their pictures of the clay project featured in past posts. It is so nice to see the work, all shining and bright, on display in the library for all to admire. I am hoping we will do our second sculpture project when we return from holiday break (but I am still a few panty hose short from making it happen and need some donations). 8th grade students are still working on their hallway drawings and uploading their clay bottles for a grade. They will finish up on Monday and then move onto making Artist Trading Cards for the March international show in Singapore. Students are using the materials from the DonorsChoose project that was funded through the help of several generous donors! Images of the cards and more work will be shortly finding a home on our online gallery on Artsonia, so keep a lookout for more! Some 7th grade students finished their halls today and uploaded them to Moodle. All 7th grade students will be done tomorrow with this project and their work will be published on Artsonia soon after.
BCWMS students took to the halls today to work their perspective magic by capturing the architecture of the building with the use of a few simple lines. We will be working in the hall for the next week, capturing the various parts of the hallway on paper.
