July's Artsonia Challenge!
This month I challenged art students through a series of Artsonia Newsletters to create and upload work with the chance to win prizes! I am excited to share that 23 works were uploaded for the month and congratulate the following students for participating; each will receive an Artsonia gift card to purchase items with their art on it:
I was making art, too!
After challenging my students to create work, I decided to get in on the action, too! I have been wanting to do this painting series for a while (at least 4 years) and figured July was a great time to get working on it! Before I got started on the paintings, I enrolled in the Strathmore Artist Workshop Series (which is free) and went through the Expressive Painting workshop. It was a great refresher on how to blend acrylic paints and work loosely to get the kind of results you see above. I am pleased with the outcome, although I am still planning to tweak it a bit before saying I'm done. To get a peek into the process, check out the images below. As you can see, there are many layers of work before getting to the end of any piece and I am happy to share that journey from start to finish.
Stay tuned for some more student work as we finish up the summer with an August Upload Challenge! I am excited to see what we get as we gear up for a new school year!
