8th grade students finished their videos yesterday and today. After turning them in via flashdrive, we played various review games to help study for exams. It was quite rowdy in the Art room today (who knew kids could be so passionate about answering questions about Art History, elements and principles of design, and materials) and I am quite confident in students' abilities to take their final test in class over everything we have covered this semester. Since this is the second to last day of art before exams, it was spent finishing up projects and studying for the exam.
I have really enjoyed this first group of students and although I am sad to see them go, I am looking forward to getting to do it all over again with a new group! I will be posting the final art and video projects online within the week - so keep your eyes open! Next week is exam week for students at WMS. Although we missed a day due to weather, students can still study for their Art exams using the videos below. 8th grade exam review on PhotoPeach

7th grade students finished up their patterns on their printing plates before using them to create multiple prints. Students used all kinds of action poses to explore aspects of positive and negative shapes, line, and pattern. Our next class will be spent finishing up prints, learning about how Andy Warhol used printmaking to create multiples, and uploading their final works for display on our Artsonia Gallery. Please make sure to also vote for Addison752 as Artist of the week on Artsonia. He is up against other artists from around the country for this title. We have had two other students nominated this year, but have yet to have any win. If Addison wins he gets a $50 gift card to Blick Arts and our school gets $100. You can vote daily until Saturday night! 7th grade students are working on their next project starting today. They started out by reading how the Ancient Greeks used pottery in their everyday life and why they decorated the vessels with patterns and figures.
Afterwards, we looked at how various artists who use this time period as inspiration for their art today. Karen LaMonte and Michael Stuts were both examined as a part of this exploration. Students are using Red and Black figure pottery as their inspiration for their next project. 7th grade students finished up their Mandalas today to show what they know about color. Each of the mirrored designs express an aspect of color theory. To see the rest of the projects, check out our online art gallery.
Students in after school art are working with wood, wire, stockings, and paint to create abstract forms that express movement and balance. Thanks to the generosity of X-rite, we have more than enough colors of paint to choose from. The company donated a skid of paint last summer that students are still using for various projects.
8th grade students finished up their storyboards to plan out their videos before filming today. A storyboard helps you organize your script into images for the screen. It also helps you save time when filming because you already know what kind of image you want to shoot in the frame. We also talked about how nearly all films made for the big screen are not filmed in order. This was helpful for groups who had members missing today. Instead of filming the first scene first, they did the ones that made sense to film today with the people who were present. We will continue to work on these films throughout next week and finish up in time to review for their exam. 7th grade students finished transferring their organic and geometric line designs (showing radial symmetry) before applying their understanding of color. Students are using each divided space to explore a color concept in art. Warm, Cool, Complementary, Tint, Shade, Primary, Secondary, and Gray Scale are all being used in this piece. I adapted this assignment from an Arts and Activities magazine article where they used rectangles instead of the circle to divide the space and create their designs. This last project will help students study for their final exam, which will cover these color concepts as well as organic and geometric shapes and symmetry. 8th grade students are finishing up their research for their informational videos about the projects they have done this semester. After research is complete, it is up to students to write scripts to deliver the information in an engaging way for their peers. Students will be working on scripts and storyboard tomorrow. Here are two videos that explain the importance of making a storyboard before filming: |
