Students spent today working on an Artsonia WebQuest that I prepared for them on Moodle. In the Quest, students were challenged to join Fan Clubs of students in our school, comments to students from other schools, and found inspiring projects from around the world! Here is one of the reflections from a student about Artsonia: "I like artsonia. I think it is a good way for kids to get tips from other artwork. Parents who want to know what their kid is doing in school can look and see... Also its a great way for teachers to get ideas of new projects." It was really fun to see the kids react to other students work from around the world and I am looking forward to seeing the feedback students get as they leave each other comments on our gallery.
There are multiple tutorials on Moodle that students have used to help them create Art. I would love to see some examples of students teaching their parents the skills we have learned in class. Any students who teach their parent or other important adult or family member in their life a lesson/project we have done in class and can supply pictures of the experience by the end of April will be put in a drawing to win Notecards with their Art on it from Artsonia. Special consideration will be given to students to make a video in iMovie of the process.
Also, remember to vote and help our students win the Meijer Great Choices Film Festival - once per video, per day. I just spent the last few minutes finalizing the new pieces of digital art students created last week. In 7th grade, students made digital knots to accompany their colored pencil ones and in 8th grade, students expressed who they are using both images and words.
Check out the results on our online gallery and make sure to leave your favorites a comment! Important Art Reminders and Updates from Janine Campbell WIN A SKETCHBOOK!Even though we had a snow day today, I am happy to report that students are still following through with obligations to their class! In order to sweeten the deal, I have decided to create the FIRST EVER ARTIST STATEMENT CHALLENGE!
In order to win, you will have to login to Moodle and click on the link that takes you to your artwork from Artsonia and find your piece to write your Artist Statement. Remember that this is a statement that shows what you learned, using your artwork as evidence of that learning. Everyone who does their Artist Statement this weekend will be put in a drawing for a super cool notebook like the ones featured above with their choice of artwork on it. If EVERYONE submits their Artist Statement this weekend, I will draw one winner from each class. Good luck and Happy Writing. Students worked on a variety of things today in class. First, students added Artist Statements on Artsonia for their Graffiti Names they created yesterday. It was fun to read the reactions students had and how they reflected on the process and what they learned. After that, students created their portfolio and labeled them with their class color in an Organic shape and their Name and table # in a Geometric shape. Once they secured the sides, students finished it off by decorating the outside of their folder with their name in an expressive way. Students will finish their portfolios on Monday. Check out our latest gallery in Artsonia and purchase your Holiday Cards using the AWESOME student art on display. You can look through past year's work, too and order a variety of items with student work on it. The actual pieces will be donated to our local Senior Center later this month to help get everyone in the Spirit of the season. Students continue to work in the hallways this week as they draw from observation. I am excited that some are selecting new views of the hall, never before tried. Several students in 1st hour are giving a try at the cafetorium, which is proving to be a great space to draw. Reid also received his plaque and gift card from Artsonia today! Thanks to everyone who voted and helped him win Artist of the Week! This was a fun way to start Monday and this week should be filled with fun as we also get ready for the 8th grade Lewis and Clark expedition outside on Thursday! Remember to dress warm that day and be prepared for lots of learning, fun, and hopefully no rain or snow this year! We have our third student of the year up for Artsonia Artist of the Week. Please take a moment and make Reid276 and our school a winner by casting a vote with any and all electronic devices daily until Saturday. Thank you for your help in making this awesome drawing of Torch Lake into a contest winner!
